Terry has been a regular guest at SMA since 2005. Three years on and he still does a wonderful job of producing a first class seminar which leaves everyone even more inspired and enthused. Terry’s ability to communicate his knowledge and experience with the group allied with his admirable skill; it is no wonder why he leaves such a positive lasting impression on those who are lucky enough to meet him.

Having experienced some of Terry’s superior boxing ability, I thought this would make a good theme for this seminar, also to include a blend of Panantukan. As always, Terry did not disappoint with glove on glove action and showed just how footwork and body position can be utilised to produce the most economical methods of striking.

We began by footwork drills, leading into some basic punch combinations. This was a great opportunity for us to practice the fundamentals, which are sometimes forgotten due to trying to master the ‘exciting stuff’. Terry then showed us various methods of defending but always being in a position to effect a blast of devastating counters.

Looking around the room, there was not a dry person in sight; the work rate extremely high but morale and atmosphere equally so.

After a short break, we entered the Panantukan phase whereby Terry used some of the earlier drills but approached from a different perspective. Incorporating scoops, body checks and balance disruptions reinforced by the punching combinations we had previously practised.

We were also very privileged to have Guru Phil Norman in attendance, training hard and getting sweaty with the rest of us. Terry and Phil have been attending each other’s seminars for the last year at SMA and to me, this highlights a colossal show of respect, support and humility. I count myself as extremely lucky to have such great people who are willing to travel in order to support me. Phil also brought with him the two legends, Woody and Tony.

Other travelling guests included Steve Martin, Ben Richardson, Rich Cogger, Terry Valler, Gary Stacey and Mark Elliott.

With an attendance of 23, I would like to thank all those who came and supported and very much look forward to our next seminar on 28th Feb 2009, with both Terry and Phil teaching a joint, charity raising event.
