During my time in LA, I trained for approximately
5-6 hours a day at the Inosanto Academy. Many of these hours were under the watchful eye of
Guru Dan Inosanto and the rest were under his senior instructors.
Classes I attended included JKD, Filipino martial arts, Thai boxing, Shootwrestling, Mixed martial arts, Silat, Combat Submission Wrestling and Vale Tudo. The content was taught at a fast pace with the material being of an extremely technical nature. Classes were run back to back with hardly time for a sip of water!
Training with Guru is a lifetime experience and I was deeply honoured to accompany him to dinner on two occasions.
I was also fortunate enough to train privately with Sensei Erik Paulson, 2 x Light Heavyweight World Shootfighting Champion.
This involved 10 gruelling hours on a 121 basis. All 10 hours were spent on the mats, grappling and learning the workable ethics of Sensei's own system - Combat Submission Wrestling (CSW).
CSW incorporates striking into its grappling allowing the participant to punch, elbow and knee, as well as lock, pin, choke and break.
The highlight of this came when Sensei certified me in granting me permission to teach CSW under his banner.
