Rick Faye Seminar Report

On Thursday 2nd October, Jason Boh's School Of Martial Arts hosted Rick Faye. An international instructor and an absolute legend in the world of JKD and the martial arts in general.

There were approximately 20 people in attendance, one of which the school was very honoured to have as their guest, Terry Barnett. Other attendees and guests included Mick Tully from Coventry, Gary Stacey from Bournemouth and Richard Cogger from Southampton.

After some basic warm up drills on the pads, Rick began with elements from the MKG curriculum, mainly the Jao Sao series. We worked on the various ranges of kickboxing and entering into trapping range, combining hand and leg movements. This was reinforced with some 'pad bashing' after.

Rick then taught us some single stick drills and how they may be applied to everyday self defence situations. One of the highlights at this point was his outstanding demonstration of 'the cane' and the moral of the story….never underestimate a man with a walking stick!!

Sticks flew everywhere as Rick continued to demonstrate strips from all angles with follow ups and counters including chokes and locks, not to mention his usual informal approach with the odd joke here and there which relaxed the group and created a fun, learning environment.

Rick was also good enough to share material he teaches some of the US Navy Seals in relation to the knife. Once again, totally mind blowing and an inspiring reflection upon how our basic knife drills may be utilised in various ways.

I would like to thank everyone who attended and supported and I would also like to thank Rick Faye for a very fun and informative seminar.

We look forward to the next one!!
