• Sign in at the front desk before the start of the class, if you do not sign in your attendance will not be recorded, which can affect your future grading.
  • Late entrance: Please make all efforts to attend class on time although Sensei would rather you turn up late than choose not to come at all. If entering the class late, take your place without disrupting fellow students. If possible, please inform Sensei before class if you know in advance that you will be late.
  • During class mobile phones must be switched off or at least put on silent unless you have approval from Sensei / Sempai before class begins.
  • Before entering the dojo the student should bow at the entrance. If at any time you need to leave the dojo you must first ask permission from your Sensei / Sempai. When leaving the dojo you should turn, face the dojo, and bow.
  • When class begins and "line up" is called, the students should form lines promptly at the back of the dojo according to grade.
  • You should pay attention when class is being taught. Speaking while the Sensei / Sempai is talking or demonstrating is considered very rude. Any time your Sensei / Sempai or a higher rank offers to help you, always accept and listen closely with proper respect.
  • Parents and other guests are welcome to observe class. Spectating as a parent is a privilege not a necessity. We want you to always feel welcome but remember, the Dojo is for the training students and the parents that choose to be observers are also required to show respect and etiquette.
  • Full uniform is to be worn at all times, this includes Training bottoms, T-shirt and belt, which must be tied correctly, (T-shirts must be tucked into your training bottoms). Any deviations from the uniform must have Sensei's direct approval. All uniform must be clean and tidy.
  • Bare feet are required for all classes whilst using the mats. If socks are needed for any reason this is to be approved by Sensei / Sempai, these provisions will be for injury or hygiene purposes only. Please remove you shoes and socks before taking your place in class.
  • No jewellery should be worn whilst training. Any item of jewellery that cannot be removed must be covered with a plaster. Long hair must be completely tied back whilst training in ALL classes.
  • You will be training in close contact with your fellow students so personal hygiene is of the up most importance. Finger and toenails should be kept clean and trimmed.
  • All students should encompass a sense of responsibility for themselves and others. Although SMA is equipped with first aid, due to health and safety regulations it is recommended that all students carry their own first aid kit. Please feel free to bring a drink into the dojo as hydration during class is promoted, this must be in a suitable closed container. Under no circumstances should food be consumed inside the dojo. For safety reasons, no chewing gum is allowed.
